India Semiconductor Mission 2.0: Paving the Way for Indigenous Innovation
The India Semiconductor Mission 2.0 aims to boost indigenous chip design and nurture talent. With Rs 1,000 crore allocated for industry-driven research and training, the mission seeks to enhance the semiconductor ecosystem, positioning India as a key player in the deep tech space.
The newly announced India Semiconductor Mission 2.0 is set to prioritize indigenous chip design and the development of a skilled workforce, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated. The initiative will focus on creating a dynamic ecosystem by attracting partners and accelerating chip production, targeting a cutting-edge 2 nanometer node size.
Vaishnaw underscored the emphasis on fostering design companies and startups, aspiring to spawn the next global tech giant from India, akin to Qualcomm. The government's commitment extends to fostering innovation and deep technological engagement, vitalizing the country's startup energy.
With a budget of Rs 1,000 crore earmarked for fiscal year 2026-27, the mission will set industry-guided research and training centers. Focusing on a comprehensive approach, the initiative aims to integrate equipment, chemical, and gas manufacturers, laying a broad-based foundation for talent development.
