In a significant move, Chinese carmaker Li Auto announced the recall of 11,411 MEGA 2024 electric vehicles on Friday, as confirmed by a Chinese regulatory product recall notice. The recall is attributed to coolant with insufficient corrosion resistance, which poses a risk of battery fires.
The vehicles, manufactured between February 18 and December 17, 2024, could potentially experience thermal runaway of the power battery, according to the recall notice. This critical safety issue comes to light following a recent incident in Shanghai.
Li Auto took to social media to publicly apologize for a fire incident involving one of its MEGA EVs in Shanghai earlier this month, a direct catalyst for the recall. The company expressed its commitment to addressing the issue promptly to ensure customer safety.
