In a decisive move, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Wednesday implemented tighter regulations on telecommunications equipment manufactured by Chinese firms considered a threat to U.S. national security. This step amplifies the ongoing U.S. efforts to scrutinize technology linked to Beijing.
Following a significant vote of 3-0, the U.S. telecom regulator reinforced its 'Covered List,' which currently includes companies such as Huawei, ZTE, China Mobile, and China Telecom. This list bars the importation or sale of new equipment from these companies, reflecting the growing security concerns.
The FCC now holds the authority to block the sale of already authorized devices containing parts from these firms whenever deemed necessary, marking an extensive safeguarding strategy against potential risks.
