Amazon's AI Reshuffle: Navigating the Corporate Workforce Reduction
Amazon is planning to cut 14,000 jobs as part of a larger strategy using AI to streamline operations. The move is an attempt to correct over-hiring during the pandemic. Employees across divisions will be affected, as the company seeks to manage costs and adapt to AI-driven efficiencies.
Amazon has announced a significant global workforce reduction, with 14,000 corporate job cuts planned amid a broader shift towards artificial intelligence-driven operations. The tech giant's move, part of a strategy to cut up to 30,000 jobs, follows over-hiring during the pandemic's peak demand.
Employees impacted by these layoffs were notified via personal emails, indicating an end to their required work for Amazon. Senior Vice President Beth Galetti stated that affected individuals would have the opportunity to consult with HR over video calls, including a 90-day period to find new roles within the company.
Departments such as devices, advertising, and AWS are among those affected, though the full extent remains undisclosed. CEO Andy Jassy emphasizes reducing management layers, with increased reliance on AI tools. While job cuts loom, Amazon continues to invest heavily in AI and cloud infrastructures, expecting to spend $118 billion this year.
