Columbus Scores Big: NWSL Expansion Announced

The National Women's Soccer League is set to expand with a new franchise in Columbus, Ohio, as announced on Tuesday. This addition will bring the league to 18 clubs by the year 2028.

The team will be supported by Haslam Sports Group, which also owns the Cleveland Browns and operates Major League Soccer's Columbus Crew. 'As the NWSL continues its rapid growth, expanding to Columbus is a natural next step,' stated NWSL Commissioner Jessica Berman, highlighting the city's rich soccer tradition and committed ownership.

The community is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the team's identity, including the selection of its name, colors, and crest. The Columbus team, alongside a new Atlanta addition, is anticipated to make a significant impact on women's sports nationwide.
