The anticipation is building as a 31-member Indian team prepares to head to Sanya, China, for the 6th Asian Beach Games, scheduled from April 22 to 30. This prestigious multi-sport event will see competitors vie for medals in 15 beach and coastal disciplines, with 62 gold medals up for grabs.
The Indian team aims to replicate—if not improve—its previous performance at the last edition in Vietnam in 2016, where a larger contingent of over 200 athletes secured a total of 24 medals, including 2 golds. This year, India will compete in several events, including 3x3 basketball, beach kabaddi, sailing, and beach wrestling.
Organized by the Olympic Council of Asia since 2008, the Asian Beach Games are returning after a significant delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Games will not only be a platform for sporting excellence but also signify the resilience of the sporting community in the face of global challenges.
