Former England captain Eoin Morgan praised the Punjab Kings (PBKS) for their remarkable batting depth, a quality that now defines their gameplay in the current Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. During a Star Sports broadcast, Morgan highlighted that the franchise's growth reflects a lesser dependence on singular match-winners, a shift underscored by their recent 54-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

According to Morgan, PBKS' ability to achieve substantial scores even in the face of individual setbacks marks their evolution into a formidable team. 'Punjab Kings are now in a position where reliance on one superstar to perform every match is a thing of the past. They have demonstrated such dominance that individual performances are almost secondary, thanks to their depth, which would probably allow them to score 230-240, easing pressure on key players like Shreyas Iyer,' Morgan stated.

Morgan turned his focus towards rising star Priyansh Arya, who, with his fearless play, has caught the cricketing world’s attention. Arya's consistent performance is a testament to Punjab Kings' long-term strategy, credited to the leadership under head coach Ricky Ponting. Morgan remarked, 'Arya exemplifies a transparent and strategic mindset that aligns with Punjab Kings' long-term plans. His contributions are a crucial part of the team’s comprehensive strategy.'

Currently, PBKS sits atop the league with an unbeaten record of five wins and one no-result. LSG, in contrast, struggles at eighth, with two wins. PBKS achieved a formidable score of 254/7, with Arya scoring 93 off 37 balls, ably supported by Connolly. Despite notable efforts from LSG's Ayush Badoni and Rishabh Pant, PBKS maintained their unbeaten streak—the first such team in IPL history to remain unscathed in the first six matches of a campaign.
