Iranian soccer players Fatemeh Pasandideh and Atefeh Ramezanisadeh have publicly thanked the Australian government for offering them a safe haven, allowing them to focus on reviving their careers in peace. With humanitarian visas secured, they aspire to continue their athletic pursuits in Australia.

In a statement expressing profound gratitude, they acknowledged the crucial support from Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke. Australia welcomed six players and a support staff member amidst rising geopolitical tensions during the 2023 Asian Cup.

While most returned home, Pasandideh and Ramezanisadeh chose to remain and train with Brisbane Roar. Safety concerns emerged following an incident criticizing some Iranian players as 'wartime traitors' by state TV for not singing the national anthem.
