The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced a significant breakthrough in its operational framework by introducing a player contract system effective from the 2026-2027 season. As the first state cricket body to implement such a system, MCA aims to provide financial security and a professional pathway for budding cricketers.
Players have been categorized into three grades: Grade A, offering annual compensation between Rs 12 lakhs and Rs 20 lakhs, Grade B, ranging from Rs 8 lakhs to Rs 12 lakhs, and Grade C, capped at Rs 8 lakhs annually. This structured approach is expected to nurture talent and continue the association's legacy of excellence.
Contracts are awarded based on performance, fitness levels, and suggestions from the selection committee. In addition to salary, players will receive match fees, daily allowances, and performance-based incentives. MCA President Ajinkya Naik hailed the initiative as a progressive step towards ensuring greater security and growth opportunities for Mumbai players.
