India's Rameshbabu Vaishali Secures World Championship Showdown
Rameshbabu Vaishali clinched the Women's Candidates Tournament title, setting up a World Championship match against current champion Ju Wenjun of China. Vaishali, a 24-year-old grandmaster, concluded the tournament with 8.5 points, surpassing Kazakhstan’s Bibisara Assaubayeva. Uzbek grandmaster Javokhir Sindarov topped the open category, gearing up for a championship duel with India's Gukesh Dommaraju.
India's rising star, Rameshbabu Vaishali, emerged victorious in the Women's Candidates Tournament, setting the stage for a World Championship clash with China's reigning champion, Ju Wenjun. Vaishali's triumph came after a tense final day, with six players vying for the top position.
The 24-year-old grandmaster's exceptional performance, featuring five wins and two losses in the 14-game series, secured her 8.5 points, edging out her closest competitor, Kazakhstan's Bibisara Assaubayeva, who completed her matches with a final draw against India’s Divya Deshmukh.
In the open category, Uzbek grandmaster Javokhir Sindarov showcased his talent by winning six of his 13 matches without a single loss, earning the right to face India's Gukesh Dommaraju in a forthcoming World Championship battle.
