Punishment for Punjab Kings' Slow Over-Rate

Skipper of Punjab Kings, Shreyas Iyer, has been penalized with a fine of Rs 24 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during the IPL 2026 match against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Following their match, which saw Punjab Kings defeat the Chennai Super Kings by five wickets, IPL announced the penalty. The Punjab Kings' previous season's runners-up now have their second consecutive win.
This was Punjab's second offense this season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, focusing on minimum over-rate violations. In consequence, the penalty amount was increased. The rest of the team members, along with the Impact Player, will also be subjected to fines of either INR six lakhs or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.
