In the opening clash of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, Delhi Capitals (DC) won the toss and opted to bowl first against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Lucknow's Ekana Stadium. DC captain Axar Patel expressed strategic intent behind the decision, emphasizing testing the fresh pitch for any pace assistance.
‘We want to assess the wicket, which features fresh red soil, and typically, chasing teams have an advantage,’ said Patel, explaining his strategy. Highlighting the changes in their lineup, Patel confirmed that overseas players, including David Miller, Pathum Nissanka, and Tristan Stubbs, will comprise the batting core, supported by bowler Lungi Ngidi.
Conversely, LSG captain Rishabh Pant suggested the toss would have minimal impact on the game, highlighting a 'new energy' within the team. This season, Pant is optimistic, noting that injury concerns from last season are resolved, with overseas strengths Markram, Marsh, Pooran, and Nortje ready to propel the squad forward.
