In a significant development for India's sports landscape, Odisha has been selected to host the 2028 World Athletics Indoor Championships, as announced by the state's Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi. He emphasized Odisha's readiness to welcome global athletes and fans, and to showcase its organizational skills and Indian hospitality.
The championship, which marks a return to India after 22 years, will occur from March 3 to 5, 2028. The event will include 26 athletic competitions, featuring both men’s and women’s events, and introducing the 4x400m mixed relay for the first time.
Chief Minister Majhi expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for supporting the state's sports initiatives and lauded Odisha's transformation into a global sports hub through sustained investments in infrastructure and athlete development.
