The Odisha Assembly faced yet another day of disruptions as opposition parties demanded the resignation of Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling. Their demands stemmed from a tragic fire incident at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, which resulted in the death of 12 patients.
The assembly witnessed chaotic scenes, with opposition members holding placards and chanting slogans against the government. Attempts to proceed with the scheduled Question Hour were thwarted as tensions rose. Speaker Surama Padhy, finding it difficult to maintain order, adjourned the house multiple times, ultimately calling for an all-party meeting to resolve the issue.
Despite the BJP's defense, arguing reforms take time and measures have been implemented, opposition members remain firm, equating the situation to past incidents and demanding accountability. The government has responded by suspending officials and initiating a judicial probe, but the opposition refuses to relent until the minister steps down, citing moral responsibility.
