George Russell made a powerful impression during the Chinese Grand Prix practice on Friday, leading ahead of his fellow Mercedes driver, Kimi Antonelli. Russell, the winner of the season's opening race in Melbourne, clocked an impressive lap time of one minute, 32.741 seconds, staying on top throughout the practice session.

Meanwhile, McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri managed to improve their performance despite initial power unit issues. Their troubles arose from a lack of engine data, a concern expressed by their team principal Andrea Stella following the Australian GP. Nonetheless, they showed competitiveness, trailing Russell by mere tenths of a second.

The session was not short of challenges for other teams. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton faced difficulties, including a spin and a collision with Norris. Ferrari's innovative 'flip-flop' wing helped Charles Leclerc secure the fifth fastest time, while newcomer Ollie Bearman outperformed Max Verstappen's Red Bull.
