The BCCI has unveiled the initial schedule for IPL 2026, set to commence on March 28 with defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru facing Sunrisers Hyderabad in Bengaluru. However, the ongoing conflict in West Asia presents potential hurdles, particularly concerning players' travel and logistical arrangements.
The tournament's first phase will include 20 matches across 10 venues, although the fixtures at Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium require approval by an expert committee. This decision comes in light of a deadly stampede that occurred last season, necessitating a review of venue safety and preparedness.
Further complicating the situation are travel disruptions stemming from airport operation restrictions in Doha and Dubai. These challenges have already delayed the return of South African and West Indies players from the T20 World Cup, leading to concerns about their timely participation in the IPL.
