The International Cricket Council (ICC) extended its empathy to stranded international players in India after the T20 World Cup but firmly dismissed unfounded claims about the motivations behind their rerouted travel plans. A conflict in West Asia, initiated by U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on Iran, has led to the closure of Gulf airspace, wreaking havoc on flight schedules.
Despite criticism from figures like former England captain Michael Vaughan and South African player David Miller, the ICC stressed that 'safety, feasibility, and welfare' have been at the forefront of decision-making. The organization refuted allegations of bias towards English players' quicker departure, emphasizing that each scenario is unique due to distinct routing and conditions.
The Council, which works closely with Emirates airlines, noted complications as the Dubai airspace remains shut. The South African team is set to leave on Wednesday night, while efforts continue for the remaining West Indies cohort. 'Safety and welfare remain our priorities,' the ICC assured, asking for patience as new travel solutions are being crafted amidst the ongoing crisis.
