During the opening of the IOC session at La Scala in central Milan, Coventry acknowledged the challenges, including the accelerated construction of the Cortina d'Ampezzo sliding center and the Santagiulia ice hockey venue. The delay of the cable car for Alpine skiing in Cortina was also noted, though Coventry remained confident in Italy's ability to deliver a successful event.
Italian President Sergio Mattarella stressed the importance of the Games amid global unrest, highlighting their potential to foster dialogue and unity. The opening ceremony will take place at San Siro stadium, with the Olympics running from February 6 to 23.
