Celebrated Indian Olympic Goalkeeper Manuel Frederick Passes Away

Manuel Frederick, the former goalie of India's men's hockey team and a bronze medal winner at the 1972 Munich Olympics, has died in Bengaluru. According to family sources, the 78-year-old had been battling prostate cancer for the past 10 months.
A pioneering athlete from Kerala, Frederick made history as the state's first Olympic medalist. He leaves behind two daughters and had been living with depression after losing his wife, Sheetala, last year.
In 2019, he received the Major Dhyan Chand Award for Lifetime Achievement in Sports and Games, highlighting his significant impact on Indian sports. His death marks the loss of one of the nation's esteemed sporting figures.
