Jannik Sinner's pursuit of reclaiming the No. 1 ranking began auspiciously as he overcame Zizou Bergs with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph in the Paris Masters' second round. Sinner needs to clinch the Paris title to dethrone Carlos Alcaraz, who recently suffered a shock defeat to Cameron Norrie.
Sinner tactically dominated Bergs, generating 11 break-point opportunities and converting three of them without conceding any himself. "Precision was key today," remarked Sinner, who eyes his fifth title of the year. He now prepares to face Francisco Cerundolo in the next round.
The drama extended beyond Sinner. Alexander Zverev, reigning champion, made a comeback against Camilo Ugo Carabelli, and Felix Auger-Aliassime edged past Alexandre Muller, keeping their tournament hopes alive. Meanwhile, Daniil Medvedev advanced after Grigor Dimitrov's withdrawal due to injury.
