Race Against Time: Milano Cortina 2026 Ice Hockey Venue Challenge
Organisers of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics face the challenge of completing the Santagiulia ice hockey venue just 100 days before the Games. Scheduled for February 2026, this crucial venue must be ready for elite athletes, including those from the NHL. The Games promise to be a significant event in northern Italy.
As the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics approach, organisers are in a race against time to finalise a new ice hockey venue, with just 100 days left before the games commence. The Santagiulia ice hockey venue has become a focal point of concern in the lead-up to this prestigious event.
Andrea Varnier, CEO of the local organising committee, noted the challenges, emphasizing that the venue will be handed over shortly before the games. However, he remains optimistic, highlighting the significance of hosting NHL athletes and ensuring readiness for crucial matches, including the gold medal games.
In January, a test event will trial the temporary ice and facilities. Post-Games, the venue is set for conversion into a multi-sport and entertainment center. Meanwhile, ticket sales have surpassed expectations, with over 850,000 sold and growing international interest. A partnership with Uber aims to streamline transport for the influx of visitors.
