In a poignant candlelight vigil on Wednesday, the sports fraternity and civil society of Kohima, the capital of Nagaland, gathered to honor Late Vihozhonu Zao, a promising basketball talent whose life was brutally cut short. The vigil, led by the Kohima District Basketball Association (KDBA), took place at D Khel Basketball Court, Seikhazou.
Reports state that Zao's body, marred with multiple injuries, was discovered on Saturday after she went missing on Friday. Her tragic death has caused widespread distress and anger across the state's sports community, prompting authorities to establish a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the events leading to her murder.
KDBA President Khrielasakuo Keretsü described Zao as a beacon of hope and a talented athlete who inspired many. He called for a rigorous investigation to bring the culprits to justice, as other community leaders joined in the demand for swift action and harsh punishment for those responsible for the heinous act.
