The body of Canadian paraglider Megan Elizabeth Roberts, who tragically crashed into the Dhauladhar mountain range, has been transported to Kangra, according to local officials. The 27-year-old had embarked on a solo flight from Bir Billing on Saturday, but disaster struck, resulting in her fatal crash at a daunting altitude of 13,000 feet.
A search team utilized coordinates sent by Roberts via satellite phone to locate the crash site and confirm her death. Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Shilpi Beakta stated that her body would be released to her family following a post-mortem examination at Tanda Medical College. An official inquiry has been launched to determine the circumstances that led to the disaster.
The recovery posed challenges, necessitating the paraglider's descent to 10,000 feet for airlifting after chopper landings were deemed unfeasible. In a separate yet simultaneous incident, Austrian paraglider Jacob Krammer was rescued from the same area after being found stranded. His rescue involved a coordinated effort by the Billing Paragliding Association and local authorities.
