China's Nuclear Leap: Probing Maritime Power and Territorial Ambitions

China has released a new video hinting that it may soon introduce its first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. This comes as part of Beijing's broader strategy to enhance its maritime capabilities and exert greater influence in territorial claims.

The video, titled "Into the Deep," features fictional military officers and sparked widespread speculation due to the homophone connection with "nuclear vessel" in Mandarin. China's existing three aircraft carriers are conventionally powered.

Amidst this maritime expansion, China has also continued its efforts to fortify its claimed islands, including artificial island constructions and a nature reserve declaration at the contested Scarborough Shoal, while regional military exercises highlight the rising tensions.
