Ayush Departments Gain Role in Bio-Medical Waste Oversight

The Union environment ministry has introduced significant amendments to the Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules, 2016. The updated regulations now require the inclusion of representatives from the Department of Ayush in state and Union territory advisory committees.
This move is intended to enhance the oversight and implementation of the bio-medical waste management rules in respective regions, ensuring that waste management processes at healthcare facilities adhere to the outlined standards.
Moreover, district level monitoring committees, which were previously composed of representatives from various health and environmental sectors, must now also include Ayush Department representatives. This integration aims to bolster compliance and address any necessary improvements in bio-medical waste management across the country.
