A deadly storm wreaked havoc in Assam's Kamrup district, claiming one life and causing vast damage. Reports confirmed a local youth died when a tree branch fell on him during a violent storm on Monday night amid a Bihu cultural event.
Guwahati experienced significant flooding, with some areas submerged since torrential rains began on Sunday evening. A body believed to be that of missing youth Akhtar Ali was found floating in Guwahati's Basistha river. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the death of woman Payal Nath, who fell into a drain.
In response to the crisis, the All Assam Students Union protested, demanding accountability for inadequate flood measures. Officials warned of continued rains and assured around-the-clock readiness from local agencies to mitigate further damage.
