The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has taken a step towards clarifying the roles of outsourced sanitation workers amidst concerns from union representatives. These workers are set to assist in mechanical road sweeping and maintaining cleanliness in crucial city areas.
An instruction released on April 8 confirms that 600 outsourced workers will join forces with mechanical sweeping machines. Their responsibilities include handling municipal solid waste and improving hygiene in MCD-run institutions. This initiative follows a meeting chaired by MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar.
The MCD assures that outsourced workers will serve as a supplementary force, not replacing current employees. The contracts are explicitly limited to a six-month period, with no intentions of extension. The meeting was attended by officials from various departments, underscoring the comprehensive nature of this decision.
