Madhya Pradesh's Watershed Initiative: A 139-Day Blueprint for Water Conservation

The initiative, worth Rs 2,500 crore, aims to restore water bodies, construct new water structures, and improve overall water quality. Lasting 139 days, the campaign calls for public participation to ensure sustainable water resources.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav unveiled a new water conservation campaign with a budget of approximately Rs 2,500 crore. Coined the 'Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan', this initiative aims to execute numerous water conservation and augmentation projects over a stretch of 139 days.
Yadav highlighted the need for community involvement to transform the campaign into a widespread movement. He noted the essential works that will be prioritized, such as the construction of new ponds, rejuvenation of old ones, repair works on wells and stepwells, as well as the development of canal systems and groundwater recharge structures.
Inauguration activities also included laying the foundation for projects in Indore, worth Rs 22 crore, focusing on major pond restorations. Officials noted that special attention will be paid to maintaining over 10,000 check dams and stop dams, alongside efforts to enhance drinking water quality and sanitation. The ultimate goal is maximizing rainwater harvesting and securing sustainable water sources across Madhya Pradesh.
