A 60-foot iron bridge collapsed in north Delhi's Roop Nagar area on Tuesday, resulting in the death of a woman, possibly a beggar. Authorities confirmed the bridge was previously deemed unsafe and barricaded.
Local officials reported receiving emergency notifications at around 9.28 am, prompting rescue teams from the Delhi Fire Service, National Disaster Response Force, and Delhi Police to respond. The bridge's collapse trapped the woman in the drain below, and her body was later recovered by a team from the Delhi Boat Club.
Locals testify that the bridge had been in a deteriorating condition but continued to be used despite barricades. An in-depth investigation will be conducted to determine the precise cause of the collapse, officials stated.
