The Jharkhand forest department is on the brink of receiving crucial approval from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) for its ambitious wildlife relocation plan. The proposal includes transferring three tigers and 50 bison from Madhya Pradesh to the Palamau Tiger Reserve in a bid to repopulate the dwindling big cat and bison numbers.
Once renowned for its thriving wildlife, the reserve has witnessed alarming declines, attributed to human interference and prey scarcity. With the NTCA's decision expected soon, the authorities plan on entering a formal agreement with the Madhya Pradesh government to facilitate the relocation process.
The recent tiger survey indicates a solitary tiger in Palamau, while new additions could revive the ecosystem. The phased relocation will commence post-summer, ensuring optimal acclimatization for the wildlife transported from another state.
