A recently released report reveals alarming climate change impacts on youth in the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) and Arctic regions, where warming rates are significantly higher than the global average. The Kathmandu-based ICIMOD report underscores the rapid disappearance of the cryosphere, affecting lives and landscapes.
The report emphasizes the underrepresentation of young people from these vulnerable areas in global climate decision-making. To address this, ICIMOD and Arctic Circle launched a pioneering cross-regional platform, the '2025 HKH-Arctic Youth Leadership Forum,' during the Reykjavik Assembly on October 18.
This initiative aims to connect youth leaders from both regions, empowering them to co-create sustainable climate solutions. Twelve youth champions will undergo a one-year fellowship to develop leadership skills and effectively represent their communities on global platforms.
