A recent report by Oil Change International has accused developed nations, notably the US, Australia, Canada, and Norway, of exacerbating climate change by increasing fossil fuel production contrary to their Paris Agreement commitments.

The study highlights that while Global North countries' oil and gas production surged by nearly 40% from 2015 to 2024, the rest of the world managed a 2% reduction. The report criticizes these nations for not only expanding output but also withholding necessary climate finance.

With the upcoming COP30, urgent action is needed to address what the report calls 'climate hypocrisy.' The findings stress that without a concerted global effort to phase out fossil fuels, the planet's remaining carbon budget will be depleted within three years.
