As intense rainfall from the Northeast monsoon sweeps across Tamil Nadu, the regional weather office issued alerts for heavy rains across several districts. Chief Minister M K Stalin has evaluated the situation, urging officials to enforce precautionary steps in anticipation of further downpour.
IAS officers have been assigned as Monitoring Officers in districts with severe rain alerts. The Regional Meteorological Centre reports that a Low Pressure Area over the Bay of Bengal has intensified and is expected to develop into a Depression, targeting the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry region and neighboring coasts.
In response to the alerts, a 'red' alert targets eight districts, while an 'orange' alert covers Chennai. The government is preparing relief measures including food, water, and medical supplies, as well as equipment to manage damage from the rains, while also enhancing infrastructure to alleviate potential flooding impacts.
