The high-stakes Tamil Nadu Assembly election witnessed a record voter turnout, signaling a robust democratic engagement. Polling for the election ended at 6 PM on Thursday, allowing those already present at the polling stations to vote.
Officials reported that 82.24% of the 5.73 crore eligible voters turned up to cast their votes across 75,064 polling stations spanning 33,133 locations. This enthusiastic voter participation was recorded despite the oppressive heat.
The election saw a fierce competition between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance and the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance, alongside other parties attempting to challenge the state's political status quo.
