BJP protests dentist's rape near Ranchi SSP office

Opposition BJP workers on Monday staged a protest near the office of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) against the rape of a dentist in the state capital earlier this month. Raising slogans against the JMM-led government, the BJP activists, including a large number of women, went to gherao the SSP office. However, they were stopped at a distance from it. The protestors demanded that the culprits be sentenced to death through a speedy trial. A 25-year-old dentist from Jamshedpur was raped at an apartment in Ranchi, after she was intoxicated at a birthday party on April 9, according to police. Three persons have been arrested in connection with the case. BJP Chief Whip in the Jharkhand Assembly, Naveen Jaiswal, expressed concern over the safety of women in the state, claiming that the situation is worrying. ''Criminals do not have any fear of the law, and women are being repeatedly targeted,'' Jaiswal claimed.
