BJP Proposes Monthly Allowance for West Bengal Journalists

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced a new initiative aimed at supporting the journalistic community in West Bengal. At a press meet held at the Press Club Kolkata, state BJP President Samik Bhattacharya revealed plans to offer a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000 to all accredited journalists if the party comes to power.

This allowance would be inclusive, applying to journalists of all political alignments, and intends to provide financial comfort and security. Bhattacharya emphasized that the party honors journalistic freedom and promised no discrimination based on media coverage, saying, "Whether those who write for us, and those who write against us - everyone is our friend."

The proposal is positioned as a means to enhance the financial stance of the media fraternity, though Bhattacharya acknowledged the amount might not be substantial. Details regarding the scheme's implementation will be shared subsequently. West Bengal's assembly elections are scheduled for April 23 and 29, with results to be announced on May 4.
