In a scathing critique aimed at the Prime Minister, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused Narendra Modi of weaving a "web of falsehood" just before his scheduled address to the nation. Her remarks follow the defeat of the 131st Constitution Amendment Bill on women's reservation in the Lok Sabha, which failed due to regional opposition, including her own INDIA bloc rejecting the delimitation process.

Speaking at a rally, Banerjee condemned the ruling BJP government, arguing that leaders who had once incited riots now dominate India's political landscape. She alleged that the bill was a strategic move to enlarge the Lok Sabha seats to 850 as part of a broader plan to politically advantage the BJP by dividing the country.

"Modi's downfall started yesterday in Delhi," she asserted, describing the failed bill as an attempt to distort electoral boundaries to the saffron party's benefit. Aligning with her stance, TMC leader Bratya Basu lambasted Modi's communication style, critiquing the lack of press conferences and meaningful dialogue during his tenure. As Modi prepares to address the nation at 8:30 pm, he is expected to target the opposition for their stance against the bill.
