Hope for Peace: EU Backs Ceasefire Between Israel and Lebanon
The European Commission and the EU's foreign policy chief welcomed a U.S.-mediated ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. EU leaders reiterated their support for Lebanon's territorial integrity and emphasized providing humanitarian aid. The ceasefire aims to reduce hostilities and open dialogue for lasting peace.
On Thursday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed relief over a 10-day ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump. She reaffirmed Europe's commitment to respecting Lebanon's territorial integrity.
In her statement, von der Leyen highlighted the toll the conflict had taken, noting Europe's pledge of substantial humanitarian aid to support the Lebanese people.
Kaja Kallas, the European Union's foreign policy chief, echoed the sentiment, describing the ceasefire as a critical opportunity to halt hostilities and initiate peace negotiations.
