Controversy Erupts Over Delimitation and Women's Reservation

The Congress has accused the government of attempting to "bulldoze" delimitation under the guise of women's reservation, arguing the bills are more about political advantage than genuine gender equity. The contentious legislation, including the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, was introduced in the Lok Sabha after a heated debate.

During the discussion, Congress deputy leader Gogoi criticized the government for allegedly using delimitation as a political weapon, as seen in previous cases in Jammu and Kashmir and Assam. He challenged the delay in implementing women's reservation, saying it reveals a lack of genuine commitment from the ruling party.

Gogoi further claimed that the BJP's actions are eroding the constitutional framework and serve as mere political symbolism rather than substantive policy for women's rights. The debate concluded with a division of votes, introducing the controversial Constitutional Bill with 251 members in favor and 185 against.
