Karnataka Congress president D K Shivakumar has suspended Member of the Legislative Council K Abdul Jabbar over alleged anti-party activities linked to the Davanagere South by-election. The suspension follows accusations from a faction of Muslim leaders within the party pointing to an internal conspiracy.
Jabbar, who aspired for the Congress ticket in the contested constituency, expressed discontent with the party decision, attributing his resignation as Minority Department Chairman to a lack of consultation. The move comes amid growing concern over the party's approach to Muslim representation.
The internal rift surfaced publicly when a dominant group within Karnataka Congress accused senior leaders of undermining their official candidate. Tensions threaten to fracture unity, and with a significant Muslim presence in the constituency, could inadvertently strengthen the BJP's position.
