The BJP unveiled its fifth candidate list for the West Bengal Assembly elections on Saturday, naming figures such as Saurav Sikdar for Dum Dum Uttar and Anindya Raju Banerjee for Madhyamgram. This announcement adds to a total of 292 candidates fielded by the party across 294 seats.
In a strategic yet controversial move, the BJP altered its candidate nominations for three constituencies due to internal protests. Changes include Shankar Sikdar replacing Sunil Maharaj in Behala Purba, Kaushik Sidharth replacing Narayan Chandra Mondal in Basirhat Uttar, and Abhijit Sardar nominated for Bishnupur (SC).
The much-anticipated elections will take place in two phases, on April 23 and April 29, with vote counting scheduled for May 4. The party's strategic shifts and candidate selections are pivotal as it battles to secure governance in West Bengal.
