On Saturday, BJP leader Prakash Reddy sharply criticized the Muslim Law Board for its stance against the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), urging its intellectuals to recognize that the UCC is not aligned with any specific religion, but rather aims to establish a single legal framework for all citizens.
Reddy pointed out that the opposition from the Muslim Law Board toward the UCC bill in Gujarat is unfounded, as it's meant to serve as a universal code rather than a religiously specific one. He cited the Supreme Court's repeated directives on the matter, criticized political delays, and noted that various states are individually passing UCC bills to address local concerns.
The BJP has promised significant moves concerning the UCC in its political agendas, particularly in Assam, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah vowed its implementation if voted to power. Furthermore, Assam's manifesto included the UCC promise and actions against 'love jihad', though stating certain areas and tribal communities will be exempted.
