The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday appointed Ashok Mittal as the new deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, replacing Raghav Chadha. This change arises amid speculation about possible rifts within the party's upper echelons.

While Chadha refrained from commenting on the replacement, party stalwarts confirmed that a formal request was made to the Rajya Sabha secretariat to formalize Mittal's appointment. Sanjay Singh, AAP's leader in the Rajya Sabha, dismissed claims suggesting Chadha was muzzled in his parliamentary duties under the party's MP quota.

Ashok Mittal, in his maiden address to the media post-appointment, assured that he would loyally represent both the party's and national concerns in the House. He described the reshuffle as procedural, emphasizing AAP's commitment to nurturing its members through rotational leadership roles. Concurrently, reports of Chadha's diminishing involvement in political campaigns and organizational affairs have emerged, despite his active advocacy on several issues in and out of Parliament.
