In a bid to capture the essence of the political charisma reminiscent of MG Ramachandran's era, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam's candidate Senthilkumar has filed his nomination for the Coimbatore South Assembly constituency. Arriving at the Central Zonal Office, he was accompanied by District Secretary Sampath, who supported him during the submission of his nomination papers to Deputy Commissioner and Election Officer Kumaresan. Senthilkumar paid homage to Dravidian icons, garlanding the statue of CN Annadurai and offering floral tributes to MGR on Avinashi Road, symbolizing his allegiance to their enduring legacy.
Speaking to ANI, Senthilkumar emphasized that the campaign is buoyed by a political momentum akin to the transformation witnessed post-MGR's reign. Entrusted with the blessings of actor-turned-politician and party chief Vijay, and guided by senior party figures like General Secretary Bussy Anand and Sengottaiyan, he remarked on the enthusiastic public turnout at Vijay's appearances, illustrating the groundswell of support.
With an eye on victory, Senthilkumar outlined pressing electoral promises, namely improving the drinking water supply, upgrading road infrastructure, and reducing electricity costs. He pledged to support the jewellery workforce, a pivotal demographic in the constituency, by enhancing their job opportunities and advocating for overall community development.
Earlier in the day, TVK leader Vijay also expanded his electoral scope, filing nominations for the Trichy East constituency, in addition to his earlier submission for the Perambur seat on March 30. Vijay's dual candidacy underscores his strategic focus on youth-oriented and welfare-driven policies. As part of TVK's manifesto, he proposed 'anti-drug protection zones' in educational institutions and promised monthly stipends of Rs 4,000 for graduates and Rs 2,000 for diploma holders.
The Tamil Nadu elections are slated for a single-day vote on April 23 across 234 constituencies, with the outcomes anticipated on May 4.
