Roig, a former coach of tennis legends Rafael Nadal and Emma Raducanu, steps in following Swiatek's recent departure from her coach of 17 months, Wim Fissette. The change comes after Swiatek's unexpected early exit at the Miami Open, where she fell to Magda Linette, ranked 50 in the world.
"Welcome to the team, Francisco! Very excited for this new chapter," Swiatek announced via Instagram, expressing enthusiasm for this fresh direction. Spaniard Roig brings with him a stellar reputation, having been part of Nadal's coaching team for 16 Grand Slam victories. Although his time with Raducanu was brief, it was marked by significant challenges as the British player struggled with her form.
Swiatek, who has experienced several setbacks this year, including quarter-final eliminations in the Australian Open and other key tournaments, is now focused on pursuing her fifth French Open title as the second Grand Slam of the year approaches next month.
