Gaurav Gogoi, the Assam Congress president and candidate from Jorhat, has leveled accusations against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging links with illegal stone, coal, and areca nut trades. Speaking in Karbi Anglong, Gogoi expressed confidence in the Congress-led alliance for the upcoming assembly polls, emphasizing public unity against corruption and fear tactics.
"Assamese people will reject leaders engaged in unlawful activities," Gogoi stated, accusing Sarma of being selective with his political allies. He charged that Sarma sidelines leaders who genuinely serve the populace. Polling is set for April 9, with votes counted on May 4, as Congress allies include Assam Jatiya Parishad, Raijor Dal, and other regional parties.
Simultaneously, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, addressing rallies, accused PM Narendra Modi of capitulating India's agriculture and energy rights to U.S. interests, claiming detrimental impacts on Indian farmers. Gandhi alleged a lopsided deal favoring Trump’s America, asserting small Indian businesses are being crushed under international pressure.
