Authorities have detained a man and three minors over a thwarted bomb attack on the Bank of America's Paris office, suspected to be linked to a pro-Iranian group. The suspects are under investigation for handling an explosive device, despite denying terrorist intent. Probes in France can last years.
A man and three minors have been detained amid investigations into a foiled bomb attack on the Bank of America's Paris office, according to authorities. The plot is suspected of links to a pro-Iranian group, officials said.
The explosive device, the most powerful of its kind found in France, could have unleashed a large fireball and fire. The adult and three minors, aged 16 and 17, face formal scrutiny for manufacturing, transporting, and handling an explosive device and attempting property destruction within a terrorist context, per official statements.
All four denied intending terrorism, stating the adult was contacted via social media by an intermediary who sent him the device. The teens were aware the target wasn't residential, the report added. Investigations continue into potential ties with the group HAYI, known for a recent online video targeting the bank.
