Karnataka's Tax Tensions: Siddaramaiah's Fierce Critique
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah criticized the Centre's financial policies, calling them 'tax terrorism'. He alleged that Karnataka receives only a small fraction of what it contributes in taxes, and urged state BJP leaders to address this imbalance. Siddaramaiah highlighted Karnataka's significant GST performance and called for a fair tax share.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah launched a strong critique against the Centre's financial policies on Wednesday, implying they amount to 'tax terrorism' or 'tax plunder'. He argued that Karnataka receives only 15 paise back for every rupee contributed in taxes.
The CM accused BJP leaders from Karnataka of failing to support the state, stating that in the previous year, the Centre collected over Rs 4.50 lakh crore from Karnataka, returning only Rs 79,000 crore.
Siddaramaiah emphasized Karnataka's high performance in GST collections, highlighting a 17% growth. He accused the Union Government of undermining Karnataka's finances by denying rightful tax devolution and failing in GST compensation, pushing the state towards unavoidable borrowing.
