Abhishek Banerjee, a prominent leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has slammed the Union government for its decision to raise commercial LPG prices. Speaking at an election rally near the Bangladesh border, Banerjee accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration of imposing hardships on the public by escalating the prices of essential commodities.
The MP further charged that the Centre has consistently failed to release funds necessary for implementing central welfare schemes. Despite this, Banerjee assured that the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government was utilizing its own resources to support housing, job-guarantee programs, and infrastructure projects. He challenged Modi to prove that central funds were used effectively in areas like Cooch Behar.
Banerjee outlined the TMC's pledges for the 2026 elections, promising piped water connections and block-level health camps throughout the state. He also emphasized lifelong financial support for women under the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme and sought to provide pensions for all residents over 60. He urged voters to reject the BJP, citing alleged abuses by central forces in previous elections.
