Canadian Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne is set to visit China this week, as announced by China's Finance Ministry on Wednesday. Champagne's office emphasized that the trip's purpose is to bolster strategic and economic bonds between the two nations.

The visit, scheduled from April 1 to April 4, follows Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's journey to China in January, the first Canadian prime ministerial visit since 2017. As Canada's second-largest trading partner, China's economic ties with Canada are crucial, with merchandise trade between the two countries reaching $124.8 billion in 2025.

Champagne, addressing supply-chain integrity issues, stressed Canada's condemnation of forced labor. Amid enhancing partnerships and investments, the minister's agenda includes discussing concerns related to Chinese-made electric vehicles and components.
